THE CLASH
11 March, 1977 Harlesden Coliseum, London

Joe Strummer - vocals, guitar
Mick Jones - guitar, vocals
Paul Simonon - bass
Terry Chimes - drums (last show until 1982)

Here is one of the more interesting Clash shows I've heard. I've been collecting live recordings of them for 15+ years and haven't heard one quite like this before. This is the only live show between Jan 1 (with Rob Harper still in the band) and May 1 (Topper Headon's first gig). In between the first LP was recorded (with Terry Chimes brought back in) and Jon Moss (future Culture Club) had drummed in rehearsals for a couple of months. Moss quit just before this show, and Terry Chimes was hustled back in.

The Harlesdon Coliseum was a porno theatre. Chaotic isn't even a good enough word for this performance. Remote Control is debuted, and attempted three times before getting it. This isn't the red hot early Clash gig - most anything with Topper from later in the year is that - but if you're a fan, a collector, or just curious, this recently surfaced recording should be of interest,

The sound is decent for the time, especially with a little Eq (high end boost). Sample below.
